In 2020, 3 cities from India were in the Top 10 for worst traffic in the world, what an accomplishment! Well, can you guess the three cities? If you thought of Mumbai, Bangalore, and New Delhi then you are absolutely correct.
Apart from being delayed, traffic congestion can have more severe effects like;
- Consumption of extra fuel. (which is not cheap)
- Car idling can produce more harmful gases. (Turn off your engine if you have to wait more than 10 seconds)
- Effects on mental health as well as physical health.
- Difficult for emergency vehicles to pass.
Traffic may seem like a small problem but it really affects how a city functions daily and individually as well. If you think logically, India has a population of 138 crores (1.38 billion) which is 18% of the world’s population, and we have only 2.4% land capacity then traffic is naturally going to be a problem. The government is to be blamed for the poor road conditions and lack of public transportation. But citizens are also to be blamed equally, we are on the road daily and some of us have a hard time following simple traffic rules.
Some major factors that contribute to traffic;
Car population.
Insufficient public transportation.
Poor road conditions.
Using private vehicles widely.
Quick Ride’s mission is to keep at least 1 million cars off the road every day by encouraging people to carpool. Say, 100 vehicles with no passengers travel from the same route every day, carpooling will reduce 75 cars and keep them off the road. Isn’t that a brilliant yet simple solution?
Currently, Quick Ride is operating carpooling in 9 cities across India and has prevented 95,450 tons of CO2 to date. We are working towards preventing more CO2 and encouraging carpooling in every city in India.
