Car accidents are not something that occasionally happens in India, there are about 4,37,00 car accident cases yearly which is about over 1900 accidents in a day. The irony is that though India has only 1% of the world’s cars, we face 11% of the accidents. Road safety is a major concern in our country and it cannot be ignored.
Road safety rules are simple and nothing complicated but we tend to ignore them, thinking it is not important or we know it.
Some of the basic traffic rules are;
- Slow down at junctions and intercrossing.
- Maintain your speed limit.
- Use hand signals and indicators (fix indicators if it is broken)
- Use hand signals for U-turns.
- Maintain distance from the car in front.
- Avoid talking on the phone and keep an eye on the road.
- Limit honking unnecessarily
- Don’t cross the yellow line marked on the road while overtaking.
- Turn on hazard lights and slow down to warn the car behind to warn for traffic ahead.
- Do not drive without a license
- Wear seatbelt if in a car, helmet if in a two-wheeler
- Make way for emergency vehicles.
- Overtake from the Right-hand side if on a one-way ride.

Remember that a small mistake and carelessness can cause a fatal accident and put your life as well as someone else’s life in danger or to an end. Following these rules can drastically help in decreasing the number of car accidents and the road may not seem as dangerous.
